November 8, 2011 : Center for Social Change Day
Since having been declared “Center for Social Change Day” by the Governor of Maryland in 2008, November 8 has been noted at CSC with a special celebration. This year’s celebration, which took place on Tuesday, November 8, was held at CSC’s Amberton Drive location, where the day program area was transformed into a space very unlike its usual appearance. Tables for dining, room for dancing, space for a gourmet buffet dinner to be served by Administrative staff- all made for a festive and colorful setting.

Guests began to arrive at 6:00 pm, including individuals, staff, and family members. The music, provided by Andrea Jones, was already playing, creating an energetic background to the festivities. After a bit of initial socializing among friends, a delicious dinner of chicken with all of the fixings, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, and vegetables was expertly served by the staff of CSC. During and after dinner, dancing and just hanging out was the order of the day, all of which was complemented by visits with the Raven’s mascot. A fashion show highlighted the fancy dress clothes that many adorned for the event, and Nathan S. provided an uplifting gospel music and dance presentation. All the while, a slide presentation highlighting the past year at CSC lit up the big screen TV for all to enjoy.

Fellowship was a big part of the evening, with individuals, staff, and families all having a chance to mingle and socialize. All agreed that this year’s event went off without a hitch, and demonstrated what CSC is really about- creating community for those we support.
