CSC and UMBC - Partnering to Provide Opportunities to College Students
CSC is partnering with UMBC to provide a valuable experience to college students with an interest in non-profit leadership. Out of over 100 agencies, 30 were chosen to become host sites for interns participating in the Walter Sondheim, Jr. MD Non-Profit Leadership Program. This program is highly respected and provides a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in the non-profit world.
Beginning on June 1, CSC welcomed Kathleen Herwig as our intern from UMBC. At a breakfast held at the university to orient new interns and their agency mentors, each of the students and the agency representatives had the opportunity to share the projects each had in store. “Like many of us in non-profits, Kathleen will have the opportunity to wear many hats,” said CSC’s Daphni McRann at the breakfast. “Kathleen will gain experience in areas such as developing publications, fundraising, working with individuals with developmental disabilities, and supporting mentors in different departments. This learning experience will provide her a unique opportunity to develop a diversified skill set.
Working closely with CSC staff mentors, Kathleen has had the opportunity to work directly with individuals with developmental disabilities, and gain experience in key areas of non-profit administration. In addition to her fieldwork, Kathleen attends seminars led by the Maryland Association of Non-Profit Organizations, which provide an overview of non-profit structures, the environments within which non-profits operate, and the role non-profits play as service providers, advocates, and supporters.
| "I am honored to have the opportunity to intern at such a remarkable agency this summer!” said Kathleen, CSC’s intern. “I look forward to gaining new skills and knowledge within the non-profit sector during my time at CSC." | ![]() |
