The Center for Social Change along with its affiliates has worked conscientiously in various states in India serving individuals with developmental disabilities. In the city of Indore in Madhya Pradesh, Nirmaan Educational Society has also been serving children and adults alike with developmental disabilities since 2002.
Thus, the comparable union of thoughts and service ideology of both CSC and Nirmaan laid the groundwork of affiliating together in making a difference in the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities.
Sangeeta Bhandari, founder of Nirmaan has dedicated her life in serving children and adults with developmental disabilities. “I have a son who is autistic and have traveled the world over in vain, trying to find a suitable cure,” said Sangeeta. During one of her trips to the US, Sangeeta met with Center for Social Change and decided that India and her establishment would be well served by the professional expertise of CSC.
Nirmaan operates on a 5 day week schooling scenario where individuals from the ages of 3 to 20 are given regular curriculums according to their adaptability skills. At present 20 individuals are benefiting from various programs which Nirmaan offers. “We offer sensory facilities and in addition have an appropriate physical training program to keep our individuals healthy,” said Sangeeta. Besides, special emphasis is given to individuals to polish up their General Knowledge, Math and English.
CSC will present its programs, like supported employment to ensure that once these individuals reach a particular skill level, they could be meaningfully employed.
CSC and Nirmaan will work closely in expanding the present set up to serve more and more people with developmental disabilities. |
